Olympus fully withdraws from camera market. Present since 1936 on the photography market, Olympus is abandoning it to focus now on the market for medical imaging devices.
Despite a success for its micro 4/3 hybrid cameras, the firm has lost money over the past three years, largely due to the ramping up of the photographic capabilities of smartphones.
The "Japan Industrial Partners" investment fund, which has already taken over VAIO from Sony, is expected to take over the complete division and transfer of all shares and continue to market products using Olympus brands such as OM-D and the Zuiko lenses.
