In March 2024, Nikon acquired the American company RED Digital Cinema, which offers professional cameras. This acquisition aimed to position Nikon as a key player in professional video, currently dominated by other industries such as Sony, Canon and Panasonic. In February 2025, the V-RAPTOR [X] and KOMODO-X models now use all Nikkor lenses in Z mount including the new Nikkor Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ motorized zoom.
The RED V-RAPTOR [X] camera is equipped with a large (40.96mm x 21.60mm) CMOS sensor with a 35.4 million pixel global shutter. It offers excellent low-light performance and a dynamic range of over 17 EV (luminance indices). It offers very advanced recording modes up to 8K 120p in REDCODE® RAW.
The RED KOMODO-X camera is equipped with a 19.9 million pixel global shutter CMOS sensor (27.03 mm x 14.26 mm). It offers excellent low-light performance and a dynamic range of over 16 EV. It offers recording modes up to 6K 80p or 4K 120p in REDCODE® RAW.
The RED V-RAPTOR [X] starts at $30,000 (body only) and the RED KOMODO-X starts at $7,000 (February 2025).
