version française

In October 2001, Canon has announced the availability of its new flagship digital SLR camera : The Canon 1D.
This cameras is in charge to outclass the Nikon D1H and D1X launched at the beginning of 2001.

The struggle between Nikon and Canon to provide the best digital SLR camera is the continuity of the war engaged by the same companies, thirty years ago.
In the 70's There was Nikon F2 against Canon F1 with the large victory of Nikon. In the end of 80's, match between Nikon F4 against Canon EOS 1 with the revenge and victory of Canon. And now Nikon F5 against Canon EOS 1V with a small but real victory of the Nikon F5.
At the Photokina 2002, The star has been the new Canon EOS 1DS with a 11,1 millions of pixels CMOS sensor.

Today the sales of SLR fall of 10% per year and the mass market is for SLR with a price cheaper than 300 $. The bigger companies from photo or electronic world confirms their supremacy on the digital market.

Nikon had created the first pro digital SLR, Canon comes back and reacts.

The Canon 1D was already the synthesis of the best of Nikon D1H and Nikon D1X, it is also built on a more modern SLR camera and is protected against water streaming, its CCD is near of Nikon D1X's and its shooting possibilities are better than Nikon D1H. Today, it is the most multi-purpose digital SLR camera with the large possibilities.
The new Canon 1DS, showed in Photokina 2002, allows Canon to reinforce its advance and to outclass easily Nikon D1 cameras which are getting on.
The CMOS sensor of the Canon 1DS has the same surface as 24 x 36. It offers a largely best definition that the format 24 x 36 itself without correction of focal.
Nikon has therefore to react rapidly, as much as Kodak with its new DCS14n is also a terrific challenger. We have just to wait ... a Nikon D2 in 2003 ?
