At the end of 99, Nikon sells a limited number of special Coolpix 950, the Coolpix 950 Millennium which has just a blue and silver colors instead of red and black, the others characteristics are the same than 950.
The standard coolpix 990 has a gray and blue. The red ellipse, symbol of Nikon camera since the F5 introduction in 1996, becomes blue for the US market.

The US and European versions of coolpix continue to have differences making it easier to spot wild over-quota imports into the US.
Thus the European version of the cooolpix 4500 has a red band on its handle while the US model has a green band. Otherwise, the two devices are identical.
