Automotive Industry is the real star of this CES. It was omnipresent with models without driver or with driving assistance and more and more embedded software.
In the context of a photography market with volume photo that decreases, photo companies reduce their presence and their new products and need reconquering the public by proposing new ways of photography, more connected, more fun.

In 2007, Nikon had launched in the same time the D3 camera pro and the D300 camera expert, both models share many common characteristics.
In 2016, Nikon repeat this operation with its new pro body, the Nikon D5 and the highly rumored Nikon D500.

The Nikon D5 replaces the D4s. It has a new 20.8 megapixel full-size Nikon CMOS sensor (5 568 x 3 712 pixels), a 4K (3840 x 2160 px) 30p / 25p / 24p video mode, a new AF Nikon MultiCam 20k module with 153 AF points, a new EXPEED 5 image processor, a 3,5" touch screen of 2,359,000 pixels XGA in standard 400 and a maximum frame rate of 12 fr/sec with continuous AF and 14 fr/sec with mirror up. it provides above all a sensitivity range from 100 to 102,400 ISO expandable to 3 280 000 ISO (Hi5).
The D5 will be available in March 2016 at a price of $7000 camera only.

The Nikon D500 has a 20.9 megapixel Nikon DX CMOS sensor, a sensitivity range from 100 to 51,200 ISO expandable to 1 640 000 ISO (Hi5).
As the D5, the D500 has an EXPEED 5 image processor, a UH 4K (3840 x 2160 px 30 /25 / 24p). It has the same AF Nikon MultiCam 20k module with 153 AF points, the same 3,5" touch screen of 2,359,000 points but also articulated, a viewfinder covering 100% of the image, a resistant anti-dust and anti-rain body with magnesium parts but no built-in flash.
It will also be available in March 2016 at a price of $2300 camera only.

Nikon presents also the SB-5000 AF Speedlight with Radio Control Advanced Wireless Lighting, cooling system for 100 consecutive shots. It is compatible with Nikon i-TTL and its guide number is 113 at ISO 100 and 35mm.

The new lenses: 300 mm f/4E PF, 24-70 mm f/2,8E VR, 200-500 mm f/5,6E and 16-80 mm f/2,8-4E have a letter “E” added to their name.
On these E-mount lenses, an built-in motor sends control signals with extreme precision to the lamellae of the circular diaphragm. This technology makes it possible to improve the stability of the auto exposure control during burst shooting. In comparison, the diaphragm blades of Type G or D objectives are controlled with a mechanical lever.
Since the electromagnetic opening is powered by the camera, the cameras D1, D2, D40, D50, D60, D70 D80, D90, D100, D200, D3000, J5 and all film SLR cameras are not compatible with E-mount lenses.

With this latest avatar of the F-mount , the connection between the body camera and the lens becomes 100% electronic. It was already made for the Nikon One lenses. Maybe we will see in the Future a waterproof DLSR in F-Mount : the return of Nikonos RS.

The hybrid market is struggling to find its way. Panasonic offers an interesting feature on these new models, the Post Focus function delivered by firmware:
This new function called Post Focus allows the user to focus on pictures after the shooting. The camera takes multiple shots burst and performing on each of them focus on a different area depending on the different topics that the camera detects in the image. the user can then choose Focus zone on the touch screen of the PC or rear screen of camera; the area to which he wants to make the point and the amount of blur on the rest of the image.

Olympus, like Fuji, continues to offer high-tech hybrid cameras with a vintage look. Inspired by the classic OM-2 silver camera, the Olympus OM-D EM10 Mark II has an OLED electronic viewfinder with 2.36 million points, a mechanical stabilization on 5 axis of its Live MOS 16 megapixel sensor , three wheels on the right side, a 7.6 cm tilt and touch screen of 1,037,000 pixels, a HD 1080p video mode and WiFi.

Nikon seems to put Nikon One cameras on standby as Benoit Dieuleveult, president of Nikon France, indicated last November:
"There are people who bought the Nikon 1, so we were not completely wrong, but the market responded differently, maybe because we had not done good analysis, perhaps because sometimes there are things that are not rational in consumer behavior."

The compact market decreases in Europe from 40 million units to 5 million parts, few new compact were introduced at CES (like waterproof Olympus TG-870) and no new Coolpix camera was presented by Nikon since March 2015.

Action Cams

After great success, the craze for GoPro cameras weakens due to a limited market but also increased competition. In this context, several companies offer sports cameras for shooting 360 degrees.

The 360Fly, presented a year ago in the previous CES is a camera filming at 360° horizontal and 240° vertical. It films in 1504 x 1504 px at 30 frames/s, it is water resistant to 40 meters deep without protective housing, is resistant to temperatures from -20° C to +60° C, to rain, to sea water, sand and dust.
