Nikon at CP 2025 |
Nikon is not presenting any new camera body at CP+ 2025, the Nikon Z50 markII was released just a few months ago and becomes the first model to offer 'flexible' Picture Control profiles that let you adjust or download additional profiles. The camera comes with 31 but you can add more, and limit which ones appear when you hit the Picture Control button, so that it doesn't become overwhelming. |

With the photo market now showing better margins, some manufacturers are once again manufacturing expert compacts like Nikon with the Nikon Coolpix P1100, a record-breaking zoom bridge camera, or Ricoh with its atypical half-format film camera, the Pentax 17.
After Leica abandoned the S cameras with 30 x 45 mm sensors and the CL/TL cameras with APS-C sensors, the Leica range is refocusing on the format it created: the 24x36 mm with the legendary M series cameras, the Q compacts and the SL hybrids.
The D-Lux cameras (copies of the Panasonic) are the least expensive and the exception with their 4/3 sensor.
The Leica D-Lux 8, made in China, is a minor evolution of the D-Lux 7 (Panasonic LX100 II from 2018) which it replaces.
The design has been revised to take inspiration from the Leica Q3, Leica's best seller. The D-Lux 8 has a magnesium body with leatherette covering, a 21.77 MPx 4/3'' CMOS sensor (17 effective MPx), a Vario-Summilux 10.9-34 f/1.7-2.8 ASPH motorized zoom equivalent to 24-75 mm, a 4K 30p video mode and a new 2.36 MP OLED viewfinder.
The Leica D-Lux 8 is available at a price of $ 1,590 (December 2024).
Canon has announced the Canon PowerShot V1, a large-sensor compact, which competes with the Sony ZV-1 series on the booming vlogging market.
The Canon PowerShot V1 has a 22MP Type 1.4 (18.4 x 12.3mm) Dual Pixel AF CMOS sensor, an equivalent zoom lens16-50mm f2.8-4.5 with 3EV ND filter, full-width 4K up to 30p from 5.7K capture or 4K/60p from a 1.4x crop (1:1 pixel capture), a cooling fan for extended video recording, a wired or wireless video streaming, a fully-articulated rear touchscreen and headphone and mic sockets.

The Xiaomi Modular Optical System, presented at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the same time as the CP+, takes up the concept of the Sony QX10 and other modules such as Moto Mods from Motorola. This system allows you to attach a real photo lens to the back of a special Xiaomi 15 smartphone using a magnetic mechanism.
The lens is a 35mm f/1.4-11, coupled with a 100 megapixel Micro 4/3 Light Fusion X sensor, developed in collaboration with Leica.
It uses the phone's power and has an optical link to transmit data: The Xiaomi LaserLink 10 Gbps which exchanges information between the sensor and the phone's image processing chip (ISP) via an infrared laser, through a small gap between the metal pins.
At the same Mobile World Congress, another smartphone manufacturer RealMe is offering, in addition to two lenses, a custom Sony type 1 sensor (13.2 x 8.8 mm) integrated into the back of the phone on which you can mount M-mount lenses with manual focus. RealMe is thus taking up the concept of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.
After the success of Ray-Ban Meta connected glasses, 2 million of which have been sold worldwide according to EssilorLuxottica, Meta will offer, in association with Oakley, connected glasses for athletes.
